Decorating the tree!

This morning we had a grand time decorating the tree!

Thanks to AJ and Phil for putting the Church Christmas tree up. Thanks to Hannah, Rachel, Madeline, Jake, Alice, Susan, Jessica Ruth and LeighAnn for their efforts and skills in decorating the tree, and in setting up the Nativity scene. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the Nativity set up.

If I missed anyone, please let me know!

In addition to the Proclamation of the Kingdom to the world, the Church is called to help those who may be in need. Helping Hands Ministry of Oktibbeha County does wonderful work in this area. Above we see St Luke Treasurer Ellie Gourley presenting a check to Helping Hands intake counselor Kaile’ Minor.

The Scriptural Position on Same Sex Marriage

This blog is not meant to be one which survives on controversy, but rather to be a means of informing folks of what is going on at Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Starkville, and to be a part of our proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven. Because of this, I struggled a bit as to whether or not I should even discuss the topic of same sex marriage. After thinking about it, I decided that the subject is one which needs to be discussed, and more importantly, it needs to be discussed from a scriptural position.

This discussion is not a legal discussion, but is a statement of what Scripture teaches us about the subject. I will leave it to those trained in the field to discuss the legal aspects of two people of the same sex marrying. In the video you will find here, you will find that Pastor Fisk does a very good job of laying out the scriptural position on marriage. I encourage you to watch it.

Tuesday in Holy Week

Old Testament: Isaiah 49:1-7

Psalm 71:1-14

Epistle: 1 Corinthians 1:18-31

Gospel: Mark chapters 14 and 15

Once again in our Gospel reading we see the entire passion story related, this time from Mark. Today though, I would like to call your attention to the Old Testament reading.

The Old Testament Reading for today is from Isaiah chapter 49, verses 1-7. When we look at the Old Testament, we need to remember that it is also God’s revealed word, and that its purpose is to point us ti Christ. We see this in today’s reading from Isaiah.

The servant the text speaks of is none other than Jesus. In a nutshell, this lesson tells us that the Savior was appointed from the womb, and equipped for his Task by God to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

As we read and think on the events of Holy week, and as we read the chronicles of our Lord’s passion, we remember that none of this just happened, that these events were the result of God’s plan for our salvation. This plan was put in to action by God just as soon as sin entered the world. Today we see God’s plan in action, not only in our annual commemoration of the events of the passion, but we see it every day in our Baptismal life.

May Our Precious Lord and Savior continue to watch over you this Day.

It has been called to my attention that the manner in which the above is written, can lead one to think that Jesus was “plan B”. Nothing could be further from the truth. God’s plan for salvation preexists his creation of the universe, and was absolutely not a “plan B”.
